The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has withdrawn the appointment of former Chief Secretary-turned-Akali leader Darbara Singh Guru as Adviser to Balwinder Singh Bhunder, the working president of the party. Guru was appointed earlier today but he was trolled on social media over a 1986 Nakodar police firing case when he was posted in Jalandhar.

SAD spokesperson Dr Daljeet Singh Cheema said in a statement that the appointment had been withdrawn, though he did not specify any reasons. Later, Darbara Guru addressed a press conference where he denied any link with the 1986 Nakodar police case and asserted that some forces were trying to defame him and the Akali Dal 38 years after the incident took place.
