Samyukt Samaj Morcha – the political formation of farmers – criticised the AAP government on Wednesday for making announcements, which are not followed by subsequent steps to ensure that these are implemented.

Satbir Singh Walia and Prof Maniit Singh, in a press conference, said the government declared that 35,000 contractual employees would be made regular, but later they extended the contractual terms of their service by one year.

They also criticised the government for declaring 600 units of free power (in a two-month billing cycle), but now they were putting riders on its implementation.

They also sought clarification from the AAP, especially its state unit, to respond to the controversy created on the SYL issue by the party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Gupta. They said they would act as “watchdogs” and fight to save Punjab’s interests.

The duo demanded that the government immediately declare compensation for the yield loss on wheat this year.
