Local residents, lawyers and social activists have written to the Chief Minister accusing the local AAP leadership of allegedly ignoring the plight of Sangrur residents.

“We, the residents of Sangrur, wish to draw your urgent attention to the alarming condition of our city, which is virtually on a ventilator today. The civic system has collapsed — residents are forced to drink unsafe water, the sewerage is dysfunctional, garbage lies uncollected, roads are damaged, while encroachments choke public spaces. To make matters worse, illegal constructions go on unchecked,” said social rights activists Jasinder Sekhon.

Addressing a press conference, Sekhon and other senior residents accused the local MLAs of ignoring Sangrur despite it being the CM’s hometown. “Even the AAP president and Finance Minister come from the area, but the city and its villages are in a mess because of lack of interest by local leaders,” they said.

“A major concern is the stink emanating from various quarters and poor garbage collection due to lack of interest by the municipal council that has seen many transfers in the recent past,” she claimed. “We request the CM to post honest and hardworking officers in the district,” she added.
