The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the Enforcement Directorate’s petition seeking cancellation of bail granted to Punjab Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in a money laundering case.

The ED had challenged the January 27, 2022, order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court granting bail to Khaira in connection with a 2015 case arising out of a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. A Bench led by Justice MM Sundresh rejected the ED petition, saying it was not inclined to entertain.

Additional Solicitor General SV Raju alleged Khaira was delaying the trial by filing applications that the trial should not proceed.

“I am extremely grateful to Almighty waheguru and Hon’ble Supreme Court for ensuring justice to me today by dismissing the bail cancellation plea of ED,” Khaira wrote on X.
