Schools urged to help reunite missing siblings with parents

The School Education Department has launched a state-wide initiative to trace the parents of two missing siblings.

Shankar (4) and Krishna (8) were found abandoned at the Bathinda railway station on August 11 last year. They were sent to a children’s home in Bathinda. During counselling sessions, Krishna revealed their parents’ names as Vishnu and Poonam, and also mentioned that they had an elder sister named Jyoti.

Although Krishna identified herself as a student of a government school in Punjab, she could not recall the name or location of her school. This prompted the Social Security Department to seek assistance from the School Education Department to scrutinise records of all government schools in the state for any matching particulars.

In response, the School Education Department has issued relevant directive to all elementary and high schools. The photographs of the children were shared with schools.

Officials expressed a hope that the initiative will help reunite the children with their parents soon.
