The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Jatinder Singh, a stenographer posted in the office of the SDM Raikot in Ludhiana district, for allegedly taking a bribe of over Rs 24 lakh for doing some official work.A spokesperson of the VB said the arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a resident of Sukhana village near Ludhiana, who had alleged that the SDM and his steno were extorting huge sums of money from the public.He added that the VB team had questioned the accused and a search of his office had led to the seizure of Rs 24 lakh and Rs 6,000 from cupboards. The accused failed to provide the details of this cash.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the VB police station in Ludhiana and further investigation into the case was on.
