Jalandhar, January 2

While he previously sent the state’s sportspersons to the farmers’ protest sites and several ‘jathas’ from Seechewal village with langar and other material, environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal shall be heading to the Singhu border on January 3 to express solidarity with farmers.

Taking along with him 5 to 10 quintal of peanuts, jaggery and sesame snacks to “provide heat to farmers in the extreme chill”, Seechewal said he was going to Singhu to help build pressure on the Centre.

Speaking to The Tribune, Balbir Singh Seechewal said, “So many lives have been lost at Singhu. The farmers are braving extreme cold. The government should pay heed to the plight for farmers. I’m going with the hope that the December 4 meeting proves fruitful and the demands of farmers are met.”

While at least two sportspersons from Seechewal, several residents and jathas from Seechewal’s Nirmal Kutia have already been at Singhu serving langar to farmers, several residents from the village have been camping at the border since November 28.
