In the evening, the children went to the village gurdwara before going to play with other children near the waterworks tank. After some time, some children told the people present nearby that both siblings had fallen into the water tank.

Some villagers jumped into the tank to rescue the children and took both of them out. They were taken to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared them dead. Villagers believe the girl had slipped into the tank and her brother jumped into it to save her.
