The Congress high command has categorically told its Punjab leaders to sink their differences and put up a united face in the run up to the 2027 Assembly elections.

Charing a meeting of the Punjab Congress in Delhi today, AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal conveyed the message of party president Mallikarjun kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi that "indiscipline and breaching the party line would not be tolerated". The instruction for the party leaders not to wash their dirty linen in public was also reiterated.

Certain leaders reportedly raised the issue of the PCC top leadership not involving other senior leaders. The issue of differences between the camp led by the PCC chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and the other comprising leaders who campaigned for Bharat Bhushan Ashu, the party candidate in the Ludhiana byelection, was also raised.

Punjab Affairs in-charge Bhupesh Baghel, CLP leader Partap Bajwa, former CM Charanjit Channi, former speaker Rana KP Singh, former Deputy CM Sukhjinder Randhawa were among 25 leaders who attended the meeting.

The meeting happened in the backdrop of a recent war of words between Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh and former Zira MLA Kulbir Zira and simmering differences among senior Punjab Congress leaders.

Earlier, the top party brass chaired a meeting of the newly appointed observers for the selection of 29 district congress committee presidents in the state. The state leaders were to asked not to interfere in the work of the observers.
