Congress leader and former Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Rana KP Singh on Thursday urged the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to reconsider the action taken against officials of Gurdwara Budha Sahib for presenting “siropa” to Rahul Gandhi.

The action against gurdwara officials had conveyed a wrong message among the people, contrary to the intentions of the SGPC, he said.

Rahul Gandhi should not be held accountable for the actions in which he had no role. “He is a fearless voice for protecting the secular fabric of the country that guarantees rights, safety and security of all, particularly the minorities,” he added.

Rahul Gandhi paid obeisance and performed “ardas” for the welfare of Punjabis and peace to the departed souls.

“He bowed before the holy Guru Granth Sahib with profound faith and respect,” the leader said.
