Hoshiarpur, December 10

The police have arrested a soldier and his four accomplices and recovered weapons and cartridges they had stolen from the Army Training Centre in Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh, last week.

Planned to rob goldsmith

  • Sepoy Harpreet Singh, alias Raja, stole two INSAS rifles, three magazines and 20 live cartridges from the Army Training Centre in Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh.

  • The police arrested Harpreet and four others from a poultry farm at Kandhali Narangpur village.

  • Cops claim the accused were planning to rob a goldsmith.

During a joint press conference, the police said Hoshiarpur SSP Gaurav Garg had received information that Sepoy Harpreet Singh, alias Raja, a resident of Miani, had fled from the centre after stealing weapons and cartridges.

According to information, he had stolen two INSAS rifles, three magazines and 20 live cartridges. The search for the suspect was started by forming teams.

During preliminary investigation, the police found out that an accomplice of the accused Armyman was Jagtar Singh, alias Jagga, who is also a resident of Miani. On further information, the police rounded up Harpreet Singh, Jagtar Singh, Karmajit Singh, alias Monu, and Gurjinder Singh, alias Kaka, all residents of Miani, and Sarbjit Singh, a resident of Chautala village. They were arrested from a poultry farm located at Kandhali Narangpur village.

Khalistani link?

  • Sources say the police are investigating terrorist link in the case as father of one of the accused, Jagtar Singh, was arrested in relation to Khalistani activities along with an AK 47 rifle in September this year.

The police also recovered stolen weapons and intoxicating powder from them.

The police claimed that during the primary investigation, the accused had confessed that they were planning to rob and kill a goldsmith on the Tanda Dosarka road.

DSP Gurpreet Singh Gill said two INSAS rifles, three magazines, 20 live cartridges, 930 gm of intoxicating powder, three motorcycles, five mobile phones and three swords were recovered from the suspects.
