Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian visited the flood-hit Kawanwali Pattan, Dona Nanka, and Teja Ruhela villages of Fazilka district today. His visit comes a day after the visit of Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal and Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond to flood-hit areas.

Khudian instructed the district administration to expedite the special girdawri process so that compensation could be provided to the affected families. He also directed officers of the Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Departments to remain stationed in the villages and extend all possible assistance to the people.

Meanwhile, the water level continued to rise in the Sutlej. According to the Drainage Department, 1,29,936 cusecs was released from Hussainiwala Headworks today which will reach Fazilka by Sunday evening, inflicting more damage on the crop in more areas. As much as 79,863 cusecs was released from Hussainiwala Headworks on August 21. Yesterday, 1,11,461 cusecs released and nearly 1.30 cusecs was released on Saturday, damaging more standing crop in border area villages situated along the Sutlej creek.
