Family members of Class XII commerce student Karan Singh, who died by suicide yesterday in Meritorious School at Ghabdan in Sangrur, today staged a dharna at the main gate of the school.

Joined by a large number of supporters, the family demanded legal action against a teacher of the school, holding her responsible for the “suicide”. However, the dharna continued till the filing of the report.

Dr Kirpal Singh, Civil Surgeon (CS), Sangrur, said the post-mortem on the body of the boy could not be conducted till this evening as the hospital authorities had not received any paper from the police for conducting the post-mortem.

Winnerjit Singh Goldy, area in-charge of SAD, who participated in the dharna, said the family members were alleging that their son had died by suicide as a teacher of the school had rebuked him for getting less marks.

They were also saying that they would not allow post-mortem of the body until the police took legal action against the teacher.

Goldy also demanded an inquiry, saying that about two months ago, students of this school had taken ill due to food poisoning.
