Ruling Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Tarn Taran Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal passed away at the age of 66 at a hospital here on Friday. He had been suffering from cancer for over three years.

He is survived by his wife Prof Navjot Kaur Hundal, son Dr Navpreet Singh Sohal and daughter Dr Manmeet Kaur.

Dr Sohal complained of low blood pressure on Thursday evening and was taken to Escorts Hospital, Amritsar, where he breathed his last on Friday afternoon. His wife said the cremation would take place at the Sachkhand road cremation ground on Saturday afternoon.

CM Bhagwant Mann condoled his demise. “Received the sad news of the sudden demise of our party’s respected MLA from Tarn Taran, Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal ji. I am very sad to hear this,” Mann posted on X. “My heartfelt condolences to his family,” Mann said.

Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan said, “He (Sohal) was a very hard working, dedicated and helpful person… I am deeply saddened to hear the news of his passing away.”

Before joining politics, Sohal worked as an eye specialist in the Health Department. He was elected for the first time as an MLA from the Tarn Taran constituency in 2022. He defeated Harmit Singh Sandhu of the SAD, Dr Dharamveer Agnihotri of the Congress and others.
