Tension gripped Baghrol village in Sangrur after two groups of villagers pelted stones and bricks on each other amid separate views on the installation of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s statue on Sunday. Some persons were injured in the incident. However, the situation was brought under control after police officials rushed to the spot.

As per information, the statue was being reportedly installed after the passage of a resolution by the village panchayat on the demand of members of the Scheduled Caste community. However, the community members were opposing the installation of the statue at that particular spot, where it was being installed. The people demanded that the statue be installed at some other place in the village, following which a clash erupted between both the groups. SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal said the police would record the statements of the injured, following which legal proceedings would be initiated in the case. He said the situation was now normal in the village.
