Despite it being a chilly day, long queues were seen at the shrine with the devotees waiting to enter the sanctum sanctorum and have a look at the rare artefacts belonging to the Sikh Gurus. Gurmat programmes and fireworks were also displayed in the evening.

The Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) had celebrated the occasion on January 5 at Gurdwara Janam Asthan, Sri Nankana Sahib.

The discrepancy in the dates was due to the Nanakshahi Calendar conflict. The PSGPC and several Sikh organisations in India and gurdwara panels in the US follow the original 2003 Nanakshahi Calendar whereas the SGPC follows the Akal Takht-approved amended version of the Bikrami Calendar when it comes to observing Gurpurbs.
