According to the Chardi Kalan Welfare Seva Society, Jaito, which runs a 24-hour ambulance and rescue service, the mishap occurred when seven-eight members of a family were on their way to attend a marriage at Brar Palace, Jaito. It is suspected that the driver lost control due to over-speeding, causing the vehicle to crash into a tree.

Meet Singh Meeta, president of the organisation, said the team reached the spot after receiving an emergency call on their helpline. “We found three women dead on the spot, while three others were seriously injured. All were quickly shifted to the Civil Hospital, Jaito, but due to the absence of a doctor there, the injured were referred to the Civil Hospital, Kotkapura for further treatment,” he added.

The deceased were identified as Simranjit Kaur (60), Rajvinder Singh (11), residents of Chandbhan, and Angrez Kaur (75) of Guru Ki Dhaba. The seriously injured were identified as Sandeep Kaur (16), Jaspreet Kaur (21), Gurpreet Singh (22) and an infant, whose condition is reported to be critical.

Local police have begun an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
