Within a few minutes of his reaching Abohar with 1 kg of “raw” gold from Delhi, a trader was allegedly kidnapped by car-borne miscreants from the Timber Market at gunpoint and robbed of the gold on Tuesday. The crime was committed a short distance away from the City-2 police station.

Anna Maratha, the director of the Anna Gold Testing Laboratory located in the old grain market, had brought raw gold from Delhi, which was to be purified before supplying it to the local goldsmiths. Sunny, an employee at his shop and who was accompanying Maratha, had walked back to his Nai Abadi house from the station when the crime occurred.

Sunny’s brother Deepak told the media that today morning when the Sarai Rohilla-Sriganganagar train stopped at Abohar station, his brother came to his home while Maratha was going to his destination by an e-rickshaw.

When the trader reached Timber Market, the care-borne suspects dragged him into their car at gunpoint and took him to the Gobindgarh T-point, about 5 km from here, on the Abohar-Malout road. They robbed him of 1 kg gold, left him on the road and fled the spot. Maratha informed Sunny about the incident. The latter rushed to the spot and informed the police.
