The police have arrested two Army jawans for allegedly running an extortion racket.

The police said both jawans, who belong to Hari Nau village in Kotkapura, were in regular touch with a youth who had gone to Canada on a study visa. The accused have been identified as Gurcharan Singh, alias Lakha, Bilal Ahmad and Dilpreet Singh.

On August 26, they had sought a ransom of Rs 70 lakh from a Kotkapura-based school owner. On the basis of the phone call, cops with the help of Army nabbed Gurcharan from Panchkula and Bilal from the Jhansi cantonment .

SP (Investigations) Jasmeet Singh said the accused were presented before the court, which remanded them in a two-day police custody.
