The Intelligence Wing in Fazilka has arrested two persons, who had opened fire on police during a nakabandi on Kotkapura-Muktsar road.

The accused were identified as Bhupinder Singh alias Sonu Kangla and Sarbjeet Singh alias Baba, both residents of Amritsar district.

They were booked under section 109 of Bhartiya Nyaya Sahita (BNS) and section 25 of the Arms Act.

According to the FIR, the police had tried to stop a Mahindra jeep but one of the occupants opened fire on police and tried to run over Head Constable Simranjit Singh.

The police managed to chase the jeep and shoot twice, one of which hit the tyre of the jeep.

The two accused tried to run away in darkness but were eventually nabbed by the police.

The police also recovered a US-made unlicensed 32-bore pistol from the jeep.
