Two new sugar mills will come up at Batala and Gurdaspur this year, said Cooperation Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa today.

Addressing a press conference, he said Markfed would provide complex fertiliser to farmers and the tender had already been floated.

He said following Markfed’s Sohna brand honey meeting the quality parameters of the Centre of Science and Environment (CSE), the demand had witnessed a tenfold increase.

The minister further said the process of merger of the District Central Coopertaive Banks (DCCBs) with the Punjab State Cooperative Banks (PSCBs) was in the final stages and the initiative would result in strengthening of the cooperative sector banks.

He added a demand survey was under way for floating a housing scheme for providing flats in Mohali to employees of cooperative department/cooperative institutions and journalists in the state through Housefed.
