Members of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) from Patiala staged a demonstration outside the Moti Bagh Palace, the residence of BJP leader Capt Amarinder Singh, over the former Chief Minister’s silence on the ongoing farmer protest at the Shambhu border.

Led by union president Joginder Singh Ugrahan, the members raised slogans against the central and Haryana governments.

On Friday, Ugrahan announced plans to hold sit-ins outside the residences of state BJP chief Sunil Jakhar, Capt Amarinder Singh and former MLA Kewal Singh Dhillon on February 17 and 18. The union leaders also declared that toll plazas would not be allowed to operate during this period in the state.

Speaking to mediapersons, Ugrahan criticised the three BJP leaders, noting their previous support for the farmers’ protest in 2020-21 while they were part of the Congress. However, since joining the BJP, they have remained silent on farmers’ issues and failed to press the Central Government to implement demands for assured MSP on crops and to register FIRs against those purchasing crops below MSP. Ugrahan further highlighted their failure to condemn the alleged atrocities committed by the Haryana Police against protesting farmers at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders.
