Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsAlthough the district administration formed a three-member committee yesterday to identify those organising data‑collection camps — and warned that violators would face legal consequences — BJP appears unwilling to yield to such pressure.
Police had yesterday thwarted a second attempt to organise a camp at Raipura village and detained BJP state president Sunil Jakhar, his nephew Sandeep Jakhar MLA, former minister Surjit Jyani and many others, who were released after about five hours from different police stations.
BJP state secretary Vandana Sangwal, who was detained for the second consecutive day, has resumed taking the welfare schemes run by the Modi government to every household. She is in high spirits despite police action. She was first detained along with BJP district president Sukhwinder Singh Kaka Kamboj at Raipura on Thursday and again on Friday.
Sangwal claimed that she has made about 5,000 Ayushman cards for the beneficiaries in Balluana Assembly constituency. Apart from this, forms of 2,500 eligible women have been filled under the Tool Kit Distribution Program of the Central Government. Under this scheme, poor and needy women are given sewing related training. During the training, Rs 200 per day stipend, sewing machine and other materials are provided by the Central Government.
She said that along with giving information about the housing facility, her team has made e-labour cards for about 2,000 people. She said that a huge crowd was gathering in the camps being organised in the villages to enlighten people about the welfare policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
She said that the AAP government became nervous, and this was evident as the party’s Punjab in-charge, Manish Sisodia, publicly told a women activists’ meeting that in the 2027 Punjab elections, “all tactics” would be employed to retain power in the state.
She added that AAP needs to read the writing on the wall; the party should stop using repression to halt BJP’s public welfare oriented outreach programme.
