Unregulated flow from dam led to flooding: Warring slams AAP

State Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Friday held the state government responsible for the "unregulated" discharge of water from the Ranjit Sagar Dam.

Calling for an investigation into the water release, Warring alleged the uncontrolled flow led to the flooding of villages along the Ravi. He said hundreds of houses were damaged and fields in several villages of Amritsar were left covered in silt and mud.

Warring accused the AAP government and the Irrigation Department of failing to protect the residents from the Ravi’s onslaught. Other senior party leaders too criticised the AAP government for its “complete failure” in handling the flood situation in the state.

The PPCC chief also shared that the party has raised over Rs 2 crore for relief efforts in the Ferozepur, Amritsar, Hoshairpur, and Ludhiana parliamentary constituencies. Two parliamentary-level committees have been set up in each of the four constituencies -- an operational committee to mobilise resources and a coordination committee to oversee distribution.

Warring said party workers were being mobilised to assist in de-silting farmlands inundated by floodwaters. Teams are also being formed to implement immediate soil restoration measures, aiming to mitigate long-term damage to agriculture.
