Amritsar, January 17

Veteran BJP leader Dr Baldev Raj Chawla (82) died after a brief illness on Wednesday.

Chawla is survived by two sons — former councillor Dr Ram Chawla and Dr Jayant Chawla.

He will be cremated at Durgiana Temple here in the evening.

Senior BJP leaders have condoled Chawla’s death.

Harwinder Singh Sandhu, district president of BJP, said Union Minister for State Som Parkash and Punjab BJP chief Ashwani Sharma will attend his funeral on behalf of national BJP leadership.

Dr Baldev Chawla served as the Deputy Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha and the Chairman of Punjab Sewerage Board. He was also the head of the Punjab Atankwad Pidit Samittee.
