Vigilance nabs warehouse inspector on graft charge

The sleuths of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) have nabbed a Punjab Warehouse Corporation inspector for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 45,000. The accused has been identified as Amit Kumar Kakkar, who had been posted in Ferozepur.

Divulging details, the VB officials said that a complaint had been received from Mohan Lal, a commission agent from Ferozepur. “In his complaint, Mohan Lal had stated that the accused, Amit, had been demanding bribe for passing the bills pertaining to the labour and sewing charges of purchased paddy bags at Rs 2 per bag, but the deal was settled at Rs 1.30 per bag amounting to Rs 45,000 of bribe money,” said a VB official.

“After preliminary inquiry, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused inspector had been arrested while he was accepting Rs 45,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. The bribe money was also seized,” said the VB official, adding that in this regard a case had been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at VB police station, Ferozepur range.
