A team of the Vigilance Bureau carried out a fresh inspection at the Green Avenue residence of Shiromani Akali Dal senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia here on Wednesday. The action came in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

His lawyer and SAD leader Arshdeep Singh Kaler was also present on the occasion. The inspection started around 11.30 am and continued till 3.30 pm. Majithia is currently in judicial custody.

A Vigilance official said the purpose was to assess the value of Majithia’s assets. Vigilance teams were accompanied by executive engineers and sub-divisional officer. They mapped the premises and gathered details about immovable and movable assets. “We are evaluating all assets and belongings in the house,” said the official.

This was the third such action at Majithia’s Green Avenue residence. Yesterday also, the team had raided his house. However, following raids at his residences and offices in Amritsar, Majitha and Delhi, a Mohali court had stopped the VB from conducting searches and sought details of the proceedings conducted by the investigation teams.

The court also directed the re-evaluation of assets in the presence of Majithia’s counsel Arshdeep Singh Kaler.

Talking to the media, Kaler said the Vigilance could neither conduct raid nor search Majithia’s residences or offices after the Mohali court’s order. He said the Majithia’s Green Avenue residence visited by the Vigilance team on Wednesday was actually a rented property.

Kaler pointed out that in the Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday, the AAP government repeatedly talked about a drug case against Majithia, but it was actually a case of disproportionate assets.
