Eyewitnesses claimed that gunfire was also heard during the fight, and one youth is suspected to have been injured. However, the police are yet to confirm that there was any firing incident.
Sources said the clash took place between members of Jangli group and Rana group, who have had a rivalry for quite some time. Both sides have reportedly clashed several times in the past.
As per initial reports, the two groups had appeared in court earlier in the day in connection with an old case. During the hearing, an argument broke out, which later escalated into violence. Around 5.30 pm, members of one group allegedly stopped the rival group’s car in Narayan Nagar and attacked them. CCTV footage captured the incident, showing a few men getting down from a Safari car and launching an attack on the parked car.
Following this, the car being attacked sped away towards Suraj Nagar. The attackers followed them in their vehicle, leading to a dangerous chase through the streets. During the chase, the car in front went out of control, hit a pile of bricks on the roadside, and then struck an elderly woman in Bank Colony. The woman, identified as Jeevan Lata (aged around 70), died on the spot.
The car was badly damaged, forcing the youths to abandon it and flee. One of them allegedly sustained a gunshot injury and reportedly hid nearby. The police reached the spot and launched a search operation in the area.
Members of both parties managed to escape before the police arrived. The police are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas and investigating the case. Officials said both parties were being questioned.
