Notably, the protest had started on Monday for an indefinite period. The protesters claimed that their business was hit hard as the state government had revised the collector rates of property thrice in the last about two years.

“We want some relaxation and have met the officials concerned a number of times, but to no avail. Leaders of all political parties have extended support to our cause, but the state government is not ready to listen to us,” said Ashok Chugh, president of the Property Dealers’ Association.

Congress leader and ex-MLA Karan Kaur Brar too had earlier participated in the protest. AAP MLA Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar too had once visited the protest site and assured the protesters that he would take up their demand before the state government.
