Woman killed, 9 injured as cars collide head-on in Hanumangarh

A woman from Abohar died and nine persons were injured after two cars collided head-on today on the Mega Highway in the Pallu police station area of Hanumangarh, Rajasthan.

Police said the accident occurred near Pallu town. In one car, a family from Abohar was going to pay obeisance at Salasar Balaji temple. One of them, identified as Sushma Rani Arora (55), wife of Surinder Pal, died on the spot. Her son Vishal, his wife Pallavi, their son Divyansh, and Vishal’s mother-in-law, Neeta were injured.

The second car was carrying five individuals from Rasuwala village, Sangria, and Nurpur village in Sadulshehar. They were returning home after visiting Salasar Balaji temple. Three of the injured from the car have been identified as Dharam Pal, Ravi and Naresh. Efforts are underway to identify the other two injured individuals.

According to the police, the accident occurred around 9 am. The high-speed collision was so severe that both vehicles were badly damaged. The injured were immediately rushed to the government hospital in Pallu, where Sushma Rani Arora was declared dead. The other injured were given primary treatment and referred to a higher medical centre in Rawatsar. However, their families took them to hospitals in Hanumangarh and Bikaner for further treatment. Police said that some of the injured are in critical condition, and treatment is ongoing.

Preliminary investigation suggested that the accident may have been caused by overspeeding and possible negligence. The police have seized both vehicles and conducted a site inspection. A case has been registered. The woman’s body was handed over to her family after post-mortem.

Local residents have demanded the installation of speed breakers and signboards to prevent such incidents. The police officials appealed to the public to drive cautiously and adhere to traffic rules.
