Lauding the efforts of the district police, which recently started “Navekali Pehal” exhorting women to come forward to join the drive against drug menace, Governor Banwarilal Purohit said women could play an important role in eliminating drugs from the state.

He said this while interacting with village defence committees (VDCs) at Bareke village along the Indo-Pakistan border this morning. The Governor praised the progress made by the VDCs in border districts, saying that the initiative has shown promising results. He also announced special rewards for panchayats and individuals who had contributed to the recovery of drones and drugs. He said the scheme to empower the women and involve them in playing a key role in the eradication of drugs should be encouraged in all parts of the state.

While cautioning the people about the nefarious designs of Pakistani agencies, the Governor said the neighbouring nation was trying to disturb the socio-economic fabric of the state and the country at large and we should remain alert and thwart all such attempts.

Later, the Governor held a meeting with various agencies, paramilitary forces, officials from the Army, police and the BSF at Ferozepur Club during which he exhorted them to work together to overcome the challenges thrown from across the border and ensure there was no threat to national security.
