In a tragic incident which took place this morning in the Guruharsahai sub-division here, a youth died due to cardiac arrest after hitting a six during a friendly cricket match.Harjit Singh (35), a resident of Basti Karam Singh in Guruharsahai, was playing with his friends in a ground situated close to Paras Cinema. While Harjit was batting, he hit the ball for a six, but soon fell on the pitch.

His fellow players tried to give him cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but Harjit did not respond, following which the players took him to the nearest private hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended on the entire area as the news of the incident spread.

Harjit was a carpenter by profession and a passionate cricket player. He used to play cricket every Sunday morning.

Before the incident, Harjit had scored 49 runs in just 22 balls.

Harjit was married and is survived by his parents, wife and an eight-year-old son.
