Abohar, November 16

A youth was allegedly assaulted by half-dozen unidentified persons at a roadside eatery near the railway overbridge outside Dangarkhera village, eight kilometre from here today.

Sunil Kumar, a student of Industrial Training Institute in Fazilka, told the police that for past few months he had been exchanging greetings with a woman friend on Facebook. She fixed the first meeting with him at a roadside eatery on the Abohar-Fazilka road.

When he stopped his bike there, nearly half-dozen persons, carrying sharp-edged weapons and sticks, allegedly attacked him and fled.

A passerby called an ambulance which took him to a hospital here. As he had left his mobile phone and bike at the site, doctors informed his parents. Sunil has been referred to Sriganganagar as injuries were said to be grievous. The police have initiated investigation.
