Three young devotees were killed, and two others were seriously injured in a horrific road accident near Chak 5 years-GB on Suratgarh-Anupgarh State Highway (SH)-94 on Wednesday. The victims were going to pay obeisance at Balaji Temple in Chanana Dham near Sri Ganganagar.

According to the police, a car coming from Anupgarh hit a truck that was parked near a hotel on the highway. The truck driver was attempting to pull his vehicle off the road and park. Meanwhile, a speeding car coming from behind collided with the truck. The car was badly damaged.

Five youths inside the car were seriously injured. People present at the hotel immediately tried to rescue the injured, but two youths died on the spot. The remaining three were immediately taken to a trauma centre, where another youth succumbed to his injuries. The remaining two have been admitted to hospitals in Sri Ganganagar.

The police have identified the deceased as Surender alias Fauji (24), Naresh Nayak (18), and Vinod Nayak (18). Among the injured, the car driver, Jagdish (25), suffered serious head injuries, while the other injured person, Sukhdev Bawri (18), is now out of danger.

Preliminary police investigation revealed that the car that crashed was purchased from a showroom on September 29, during the Navratri festival days. The youths had rented the car late the previous night to visit Balaji Temple in Chanana Dham village near Sri Ganganagar.
