Faridabad, March 16

At present, at least 90 government schools in the district do not have regular principals and head teachers resulting in administrative and teaching issues.

While 40 head-less schools are of senior secondary, high and middle level, at present, around 50 primary level schools are also functioning with proper head teachers.

The district has around 340 schools. Sources in the Education Department claim that vacancies at this level have been an issue of concern as the jobs or duties of the principal or head teacher have been assigned to other teaching staff. Additional engagements have made the teachers skip the classroom teaching resulting in an adverse impact on students’ performance. “The target of getting 80 per cent result (pass percentage) in high and senior secondary levels in the near future is unlikely to be achieved in the given situation,’’ says a teacher on condition of anonymity.

Blaming the delay in the implementation of a proper promotion policy, Sushil Kumar, a former vice-president of the Haryana School Lecturers Association said over 500 teachers in the state had been awaiting promotion for over two decades. Claiming that 50 posts of head teachers had been lying vacant in government primary schools in the district, a spokesperson of the Haryana Primary Teachers Association (HPTA) said these posts had not been filled up for the past over 10 years despite no additional financial liability.

Demanding that the teachers be exempted from the non-teaching jobs such as preparation of Parivaar Pehchan Patra, Covid or for preparation or revision of electoral rolls, Chatar Singh, treasurer, HPTA, said it has adversely affected the teaching work.

The government schools not having a regular principal include the schools at Sector 10, Sector 28, Sector 22, Sector 21D, NH-1, NH-2(NIT), Budena village, Bhankri village, Ankhir, Ajronda, Chhainsa, Mohna, Panhera Khurd, Badkhal, Bhainsrawali, Bijopur, Mujheri, Saroorpur,Buapur, Badoli,Nangla Gujran, Korali, Neemka, Badoli, Mahawatpur, Dahkola, Atali, Gadkhera and Junhera villages.

“The issue has already been taken up with the authorities concerned and it is likely to be resolved soon, says DEO Ritu Chaudhary.
