What began in the heart of a young Swiss schoolgirl-after hearing an audiobook story about a sponsored run-grew into a powerful class project. On June 20, 2025, as many as 40 primary school pupils turned inspiration into action by running to support underprivileged children in India and Nigeria.
In a sponsored run, participants find sponsors who donate either per lap or as a fixed amount. Two classes teamed up and chose to support two causes close to their hearts: Divine Roots Pre-school in Pune, India, which provides education, meals, and supplies for children in need, and Children of Tomorrow, a private orphanage in Nigeria caring for 17 children.
Led by four determined girls-Rinah, Nysa, Shreejaa, and Ayleen-representing Swiss, Indian and Nigerian backgrounds, the students organised the event, rallied support and secured sponsorships. With the knowledge that just two laps could fund a child's education for a whole year, the children ran with passion. The more they ran, the more children they could help-and their energy soared.
Through their efforts and the generosity of sponsors, they raised an impressive CHF 9,500 (around Rs 1,026,651).
Now, as pledges are fulfilled, funds will soon reach India and Nigeria-bringing hope, education, and brighter futures. Every runner, supporter, and donor played a part in changing lives. Running for a cause. Giving with heart. Making a difference-together.
