The neverending silence

Rishika Kapur, Class X, Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh

She was there, a year ago

Pacing the hallway to and fro

Laughing and praying all the way

Her smile so divine

Camouflaging all the pain.

And she was there, a month ago

In the kitchen with a glass in tow

Talking while waiting for the water to heat

Discussing with my mother

The dishes to eat

There she was, a week ago

Praising the almighty, for all he bestowed

Reminiscing in the past, her days of old

Her golden childhood

The memories she stowed

And she was there, a day ago

Begging and pleading my mother to vow

To not to cry and let her go

As she harbored no grudges

And no regrets she bore

There she was, an hour ago

Thanking everyone, with a bow

Sitting there, she smiled contently

Tears glistening in her eyes

As she held me close

She was there, a minute ago

Laboring Breath, her pulse low

And then she receded, into a deep sleep

For now, she was there, no more.

EXPLORE YOURSELF

Nandini, Class X, Valley Public School,Panchkula

Nowadays, due to COVID-19 pandemic the whole world has been disturbed. Caught in the maelstrom, everybody is just waiting for everything to return to normal. But, think seriously, is it true that we can do nothing except wait for things to improve and sit idle until then? No, it is not like that as we can be proactive even in the midst of this crisis.

The lockdown is a time to explore oneself, explore our abilities and talents, to get to know about ourselves. Yes, life is full of tests and trials but spending time to indulge in productive activities is the only way out of anxiety and frustration.

So, watching TV, surfing internet and playing with gadgets are not going to get you anywhere. All of these are just means of entertainment, and won’t make us succeed in life.

During this time one should find what one is good at or not good at, find what one is passionate about, set new goals and work to achieve them. Also this is the time to explore our mind, to be creative, make new discoveries, to think logically, to assess the relationships, and learn different things.

So, open your minds and explore yourself while saying goodbye to irrelevant or useless things. That’s why someone has rightly said “Observing yourself is a necessary change”.

The time of terror

Japman Kaur Aneja, Class IX, Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh

I see the sun rise from beneath the ground,

And once more, bring a time of sunshine and cheer around.

When children played and Nature danced to its own beat,

When birds sung their melodies and butterflies came to greet.

But this joy soon faded away and the fun seemed to cease,

When the clouds stormed over as rain destroyed Nature’s peace.

The children stopped playing and nature showed its rage,

The sky growled, thunder rumbled, everyone returned to their cage.

Happiness ended, fear and panic spread,

And there came a time which everyone used to dread.

A time when Nature roared and its fury was shown,

The time of its end however, remained unknown.

That day is today, that time is now,

We say we have advanced, but to solve this problem, no one knows how.

The virus became the thunder, the rain became the fear,

The days passed by, but the end was nowhere near.

Life came to a stop and nothing stayed the same,

Humans cursed each other and put each other to blame.

Nature can also take revenge; this thought never struck our mind,

Nature found its own way to wait, until we became blind.

We cursed others without looking at our deeds,

Highlighted others’ mistakes, ignored Mother Nature’s deeds.

We destroyed the Nature, filling it with waste for a long time,

We forgot this Earth isn’t ours, we forgot what was prime.

That we are the Earth’s servants and it is the queen,

That our work is not to just survive, but also to keep it green.

We forgot we used to love the Nature at its best,

We forgot to smile, to love, to help, to care for the rest.

The Nature gave us chances to mend our ways,

But we didn’t listen and those destructive goals, we continued to chase.

Now, Nature heals and begins to dance once more,

Birds chirp, leaves rustle, wind blows, and we again have the Earth we adored.

So let it stay this way for years and years ahead,

Embrace it and let the joy spread.

I see the sun rise from beneath the ground,

And once more, bring a time of sunshine and cheer around.

Go corona, go corona

Reetpal Kaur, Class IX, Sacred Heart Sr Sec School, Chandigarh

Go corona, go corona

Why aren’t you leaving us corona

Doing chores of the household is a hard task

We’ll be fined now if we go out without mask

Lockdown has somehow made our lives tough

Use of sanitisers have made our hands rough

Go corona, go corona

When are you leaving us corona

Hats off to the doctors treating patients hit by you

Knowing that you dangerous than flu

Salute to the frontline workers who’ve worked day and night

For us they left their relations behind and overlooked their pitiful plight

Go corona, go corona

You are disturbing our lifestyle,

No doubt students are taking to online studies

Nevertheless they are missing chit chat with buddies

Teachers are toiling to make online lectures ready

This has made their lives still and steady

Go corona, go corona

Of all viruses you are the most dreaded one corona

Go corona, go corona

Why aren’t you leaving us corona

Overcoming Fears

Omika Gupta, Class IX, Shishu Niketan Public School, MDC, Panchkula

Why we don’t overcome our fears,

Why we every time get scared.

Instead of failing due to our fear,

make your fear fail.

Break your fear into pieces,

So that it never returns and ceases.

It’s not easy to overcome our fears,

But there’s nothing impossible my dears.

Make impossible into I’m possible

With your will power and determination.

Girls should show their power

To defeat all monsters that over you tower.

Be a legend for those who lack the grit

So they fight their demons every bit.

Overcome your fears

Overcome your failure and

Make your future bright.

ENVIRONMENT

Parizaad Kaur Sekhon, Class VIII, Yadavindra Public School, Mohali

The fragrance of flowers brings to all many joys,

That is why I always see the playground full of boys.

The land is unbreakable and the water is soothing,

Because the zest in calmness is booting.

The butterflies giggle and fly away with the breeze,

That is why I prefer to sit underneath the trees.

The green leaves love to bath in the sun,

Spending time in Nature is bliss and fun.

Blue, green, yellow, pink and red,

So many flowers together, lovely fragrance they spread.

The grass speaks the truth to sky,

Also the clouds wave to children as if they are saying goodbye.

Lavender, rose, dandelion and sunflower,

Enjoy all seasons as they have something different to offer.

The singing of the birds and the hopping of the rabbits,

Humans love to enjoy these species’ habits.

I want to plant so many trees,

And then dance in the lovely breeze.

The Earth is full of biodiversity,

It is bountiful with so many resources and there is no scarcity.
