Tribune Model School, Chd, holds chess tournament

The inter-house chess tournament at the school culminated in a thrilling display of intellect, strategy, and composure. The third-place match witnessed a compelling face-off between Chanakya House and Dronacharya House, where Chanakya emerged victorious with a score of 4-2. The final match was a nail-biting encounter between Vishwamitra House and Shankaracharya House, with Shankaracharya House clinching the championship by a close 3–2 margin. The tournament not only fostered a spirit of healthy competition but also highlighted the students’ sharp cognitive abilities and sportsmanship. Principal Rani Poddar lauded the efforts of all participants and emphasised the importance of strategic games like chess in nurturing critical thinking. Organised seamlessly by the Sports Department, the event was a testament to the school’s commitment to holistic student development.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
