Coming down heavily on the Haryana Olympic Association (HOA) for not holding its elections on time, the state government has appointed an administrator to manage the day-to-day affairs of the Olympic body.

The term of the HOA expired on November 12, and taking action against the association for not holding the elections within the stipulated time (as per the provision of the Haryana Registration and Regulation of Societies Act 2012), the District Registrar, Firms & Societies, Panchkula, has appointed the Deputy Director, Sports, as its administrator.

Satbir Singh will take charge with immediate effect and has been given the responsibility to conduct the HOA elections within three months. “You are directed to conduct the elections of the governing body as per the byelaws of the society, provisions of HRRS Act 2012, by video recording all the proceedings and submit the report,” read the order.

The appointment comes just a day after Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha accused the sports ministry of interfering in the affairs of the national federations and undermining the credibility of sports governance. In 2020, the elections to elect the HOA body were postponed at the eleventh hour. Former Indian hockey drag-flicker and Haryana’s sports minister Sandeep Singh was then elected as the HOA president on December 13, 2021.
