Bengaluru blank City 5-0, move into ISL semifinals
Bengaluru FC pulled off the biggest win in ISL playoffs history, thrashing Mumbai City FC 5-0 to progress to the semifinals here on Saturday.
Suresh Singh Wangjam (9th minute) opened the scoring, followed by goals from Edgar Mendez (42nd), Ryan Williams (62nd), Sunil Chhetri (76th) and Jorge Pereyra Diaz (83rd), with Bengaluru converting five out of their six on-target shots into goals.
Bengaluru will face FC Goa in the semifinals across two legs on April 2 and April 6, while Mumbai have been eliminated.
Bayern battle past St Pauli
Munich: Leroy Sane scored twice in the second half as Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich were made to work hard for a 3-2 win over visitors St Pauli to restore their six-point gap at the top going into the last seven matchdays. Bayern are on 65 points, with second-placed Bayer Leverkusen on 59.
Palace beat Fulham
London: Crystal Palace advanced to the semifinals of the FA Cup with a 3-0 win over Fulham. Palace became the first team to book its place in the next round with victory at Craven Cottage through goals from Eberechi Eze, Ismaila Sarr and Eddie Nketiah.
Atletico stumble again
Madrid: Atletico Madrid’s slim hopes of fighting for the La Liga title faded further after drawing at Espanyol 1-1. The stalemate left Diego Simeone’s side six points behind leaders Barcelona and three behind Real Madrid before both play games this weekend.
