Chandigarh’s Akshay Sharma shot a bogey-free 8-under 64 in Round 1 to take the lead in the PGTI Players Championship.
S Chikkarangappa was second after a 6-under. While the two leading scores came at the Panchkula Golf Club, Sunit Chowrasia recorded the day’s best score at the Chandigarh Golf Club, a 5-under-67, to be in third place.
“I was quite accurate as I found all the fairways and made 17 greens in regulation,” said the 30-year-old Sharma, a winner on the tour in 2018.
Karandeep Kochhar shot a 4-under to be tied-4th. Aadil Bedi was tied-6th at 3-under. Ajeetesh Sandhu (72) was tied-29th. — TNS
Unique format
The tournament is being played across two venues — Panchkula Golf Club and Chandigarh Golf Club. The first two rounds will be played at Panchkula and Chandigarh, while the final two rounds will be played only at Panchkula.
