After restricting UP Warriorz to a mere 119/9, Capitals knocked off the target without any hassle with captain Meg Lanning (51) and Shafali Verma (64 not out) putting up a 119-run partnership for the opening wicket.

Shafali smashed four sixes and six fours in her 43-ball knock as Delhi chased down the target in 14.3 overs to move to the second position in the five-team points table.

“Feeling very good. Could not get going the other day, so wanted to get the job done tonight,” Shafali said.

Earlier, spinner Radha Yadav returned 4/20 after medium-pacer Marizanne Kapp (3/5) blew away UP Warriorz’s top-order.

“I was happy when we won the toss tonight. Nice to go out there and bowl. Really pleased with the win,” said Player of the Match Kapp.

Arundhati Reddy and Annabel Sutherland chipped in one wicket apiece. Shweta Sehrawat waged a lone battle for UP, scoring 45 from 42 balls with five fours and a six.

“I thought it was an excellent performance,” Lanning said. “Kapp was incredible up front. Radha was excellent as well. It is a lot of fun batting with Shafali, being at the other end watching her smash it,” she added.

Brief scores: UP Warriorz: 119/9 in 20 overs (Sehrawat 45; Yadav 4/20, Kapp 3/5); Delhi Capitals: 123/1 in 14.3 overs (Shafali 64*, Lanning 51; Ecclestone 1/31).
