Chandigarh, February 29

Local fencers claimed rich haul of medals in the recently concluded 65th National School Games U-14 Championship, organised by Sports Authority of Gujarat at Ambubhai Purani Sports Complex in Nadiad.

Besides winning individual medals, the local team claimed the overall position in team category.

Ekam Toor of Carmel Convent School (Sector 9) won the gold medal in girls’ foil category by defeating Preethi of Tamil Nadu 9-8. Earlier, she defeated Shneha of Bihar 10-0, Kanan of Maharashtra 10-1, Anita of Gujarat 10-3 and NV Tenashu of Tamil Nadu 15-5. In the epee event, Ekam claimed silver medal. She faced a 13-15 defeat to Nelcyrose of Manipur. She had overpowered Bhunashwari of Tamil Nadu 10-8, Rupali Shau of Chhattisgarh 10-3 and Prachi Lohan of Haryana 15-7 before moving into the final. In the team foil event, Chandigarh eves claimed the gold medal. The team was represented by Ekam, Mahira Batheja, Himani Bhandari (Carmel Convent School) and Pranshi (Delhi Public School Sector 40). In epee event, the local team claimed the bronze medal. Ekam, Sanchi , Anushka (Chitkara International School Sector 25) and Khushboo (Government Model Senior Secondary School Sector 10) represented the local team.
