Led by Viswanathan Anand, Ganges Grandmasters outclassed Mumba Masters 12-4 on the final day of the Global Chess League, avoiding a last-place finish as the tournament heads into the finals. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave faced off against Anand on the icon board. In battle that spanned 71 moves, the two players fought until only their kings remained, ultimately agreeing to a draw.

Iran’s World Cup qualifier switched to Dubai
The Asian Football Confederation said an upcoming World Cup qualifying game won’t take place in Iran because of escalating tensions in the region. The AFC switched the venue for the October 15 football game between Iran and Qatar from the Iranian city of Mashhad to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
