The Maharashtra government has barred the sale of tickets for the IPL due to begin on March 29 at the Wankhede Stadium here due to the coronavirus outbreak. The state cabinet took the decision at a meeting today. It is still not clear whether the state government will allow the tournament to take place in the city. A section of the BCCI wants the matches to pan out in an empty stadium. Seven matches are scheduled to be played at Mumbai. TNS

The novel coronavirus continued to affect Indian sporting events today, forcing postponement of the Indian Open golf tournament, lockdown of the SAI’s southern centre in Bengaluru besides prompting the BCCI to issue a health advisory to cricketers. It was also decided that the upcoming India Open badminton tournament will be held behind closed doors. Meanwhile, India’s cricketers were advised to avoid eating out at “unknown and unhygienic” restaurants and clicking selfies with fans.
