Hussamuddin (57kg) defeated Italian Simone Spada 5-0. However, it was curtains for Panghal (52kg) after a split decision loss to European Games champion Gabriel Escobar in the last-8 stage.

Earlier, Pooja Rani (75kg) defeated Italian Assunta Canfora to join MC Mary Kom (51kg), Simranjit Kaur (60kg) and debutant Jasmine (57kg) in the last-four stage.

However, Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) lost to Russia’s Saadat Dalgatova. Manisha Moun (57kg) was another Indian to be ousted after losing to Italian Irma Testa in the quarterfinals. — PTI
