Chandigarh, January 4

The women’s fencing (foil) team of hosts Panjab University won gold medal in the ongoing All India Inter-University Fencing Championship, here today.

The team was represented by Kajal, Kusum, Simran and Chhabi. Sardar Patel University (Gujarat)– Zala Divya, Sameja Khushi, Chaudhary Kajal and Chaudhary Ritu–claimed the silver medal, whereas RTM University (Nagpur)—Harshada, Himani Ghodmare, Nilofar Pathan and Payal Moharle—claimed bronze medal. Guru Nanak Dev University (Amritsar) team also won the bronze medal. Payal, Jasmine Kaur, Rajni Sharma and Jaspreet Kaur represented the team. Meanwhile in the individual foil event, Riya of Cluster University of Jammu and Simran of Punjabi University (Patiala) won a joint bronze medal. The final match between Kajal and Kusum, both from Panjab University, will be held on Sunday. In the epee event, Ena Arora of Punjabi University and Linthoi Haobam of Manipur University claimed the joint bronze. Chhavi Kohli will take on Yashkeerat Kaur Hayer in the final of the event. In sabre event, Jagmeet of Guru Nanak Dev University claimed the gold medal, while Shivani of Kurukshetra University claimed the silver medal. Alka of Kannu University, (Kannur) and Sanya of Panjab University claimed the joint bronze.
