After a two-year wait, three Asian Para Games medallists have finally received the cash awards that were announced by the Punjab Government.

Punjab’s Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi today honoured three bronze medallists from the 2018 Asian Para Games with a total prize money of Rs 1.5 crore. Powerlifter Paramjeet Kumar of Jalandhar, shot putter Mohammed Yasser of Sangrur and badminton player Raj Kumar of Patiala were awarded Rs 50 lakh each.

Notably, the rewards came after The Tribune highlighted the issue two weeks ago.

1,101 to be honoured

Sodhi further informed that the sports department has shortlisted 1,101 medallists to whom the state government will award a total sum of over Rs 4.85 crore before September. — TNS
