Chandigarh, January 11

Fourth seed Belgium’s Raphael Collignon and Israel’s Mika Fruchtman Dagan won the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors (Grade-III) Tournament for boys and girls, respectively, at the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association Complex (Sector 10) here today.

In a one-sided boys’ U-18 final, Collignon easily defeated Martin Katz 7-5 6-2 to win the title. The sixth seed Fruchtman meanwhile faced a tough challenge from Sabrina Kalandarov in the girls’ U-18 final.

She won the first set 6-4, but Sabrina bounced back in the second by registering a 3-6 victory. In the final set, both players were at playing at par 4-4, but Sabrina started losing her game owing to pain in left leg. She tried hard to hold the fort, but lost the decider 5-7 to make way for Fruchtman to win the title.

In the boys’ final, the third seed Belgium’s duo of Raphael Collignon and Martin Katz also faced a tough resistance from Taym Alazmeh and Tanapatt Nirundorn before recording a 6-2 4-6[10-5] victory. In the girls’ category, the second seed duo of Jiaqi Huang and Yu Yun Li ousted top seed Jasmine Conway and Alessandra Simone 7-6(6) 6-0 to claim their stake on the coveted trophy. Members of Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) Rajan Kashyap (founder and life president) along with SM Sharma (vice president), Dr Reet Mohinder Singh (member executive) and Megh Raj (chief operating officer) awarded the winners.
