PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles competition along with two other Indians at the Swiss Open badminton tournament here today.

World champion Sindhu beat Iris Wang 21-13 21-14 in women’s singles, while former world No. 1 Srikanth notched up a 21-10 14-21 21-14 victory over Thomas Rouxel in men’s singles.

Ajay Jayaram eked out a 21-18 17-21 21-13 win against third seed Rasmus Gemke.

B Sai Praneeth beat Pablo Abian 21-12 21-17.

Doubles delight

It was double delight for Satwiksairaj Rankireddy as he progressed to the quarterfinals in both the mixed doubles and men’s doubles competitions with respective partners Ashwini Ponnappa and Chirag Shetty.

Meanwhile, Sourabh Verma, Parupalli Kashyap and the men’s doubles pair of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila lost their matches.

On Wednesday night, former champion Saina Nehwal battled for 58 minutes before losing 16-21 21-17 21-23 to Phittayaporn Chaiwan. — PTI
